I am so happy to finally be able to share some photos from The Little Green Dot Workshop, Coconut Oil for Skin, Hair & Food! It is one of my favorite blogs here in Singapore and I am so thrilled to be able to share bits of my creativity with the latest workshop. During my search for eco-friendly recipes and methods, I stumbled upon Little Green Dot, and it has been my go-to resource for all things green ever since.
Yep, that’s me with all the hair. I haven’t written with traditional chalk for ages (like high school, which is synonymous to ages) so it was a refreshing lettering project for me. Because of this, I’ve always been on the look out for discarded plywood in the neighborhood (still unlucky) and looking forward to have my own chalkboard at home.
If you’d like to have your own copy of the recipes from the workshop, there’s a free copy available for download! You’ll get to see more photos of the event as well. Oh, and if the photos can’t say it all, watch the Little Green Dot Workshop Video to see all the wonderful artistic elements coming together that created such an interesting collaboration.
If the quote below is true, I guess my current soundtrack would be a very fast-paced dance song. And yep, I’m ‘singing along’ but I’m getting a bit breathless from trying! For the Moms who read this – do you remember when the old-time parents used to tell us that we should be prepared when we have our own kids? Do everything you want to do, go where you want to go, because when you start having kids, it’s game over?
I don’t agree with ‘game over’ (I love being a Mom and enjoy every minute of it) but my toddler who just turned two has been challenging my stamina lately. A few weeks ago, we were at a play gym for a complimentary class. It was a wonderful mommy-and-daughter bonding time. She was very enthusiastic and absolutely loved the place. All the kids and their moms were in place, seated together in a circle. Oh, we were seated quietly, too – for maybe two minutes max. She was up running around and exploring all the other equipment in the gym.
The best part was storytelling. She loves stories and is very fond of bedtime reading, but at the gym, music was blaring and she would rather dance around to the songs rather than listen to the story! All the kids were seated, as always, while she dances in the middle of the circle. She was dancing without a care in the world! I didn’t try to restrain her or anything. I just sat back and watched, and reveled in one of the happiest moments of my life.
I am very, very excited to show you something new! I’ve added a Calligraphy section to my Etsy shop, and I’m working hard to come up with more items to fill it up. This is one of my absolute favorites, and I’m going to add more styles in the months to come. Here is the first of many (fingers crossed!) wedding invitation styles that will be available here at the Happy Hands Project. And yes, I have a lot of plans for next year and they’re just swimming in my head… so I need to organize every single thought and put each one out there!
Okay, I know that I’ve said this before, but I’m going to say this again. If I’m getting married now, I’d love to have this for my wedding. I think there’s something very intimate about handwritten wedding invites. This is one of life’s most important days, and I believe it deserves some handwritten elegance.
I really had a great time conceptualizing the calligraphy for this invite. I’ve been practicing a lot lately, and I am very comfortable in this writing style because it’s very close to my natural handwriting. By ‘natural’, I meant writing with a regular ballpoint or pencil. I’m so glad I’m finally able to share this!
You can always send me an email if you have any queries – ask me anything! You may order this directly through email, or through Etsy. If you or someone you know is getting married, I’d love for you to help me spread the word!
We all have our own vacation memories, be it our first trip on our own, our romantic honeymoon, or that backpacking adventure in Europe. We have our own favorite cities that we wish we could visit as often as we could. Paper and Place is this wonderful shop located in Dallas, Texas that customizes jewelry, accessories and housewares with maps of our favorite places. I think her products would make wonderful favors for a destination wedding!
Erica and I worked together to design her logo – a wispy, flowy script with minimal flourishes. She also has an Etsy shop, be sure to check it out if you’re looking for a unique handmade gift for yourself or someone you love.
I wrote all these logos with a traditional dip pen fitted with a flex nib and my trusty black Calli ink.
So it’s my first time to see my calligraphy on a pair of pillows. To say that I was very much excited to see the finished products would be an understatement!
Kathie owns a couple of online shops, Brush and Feather and Pillow Art Designs and proudly paints all the designs on her products by hand. She asked me to do calligraphy that would be perfect for weddings, or a gift for the newlyweds. Heck, I’ve been married for a few years now and would still want a pair of those.
After a few design samples, she decided on this wispy, slightly flourished writing and I couldn’t agree more. Drop by Brush and Feather on Etsy to see more of her handmade creations.
Oh, Peach & Madison. This was quite a long logo to write but I just realized that the longer the name, the more fun I can have with it. This was meant to be for a fresh, new online fashion store – the brainchild of 3 women who want to offer a casual, carefree yet carefully selected pieces of fashion. For someone who loves clothes and shoes, writing a logo for such a shop is a dream!
This is sadly the logo that never was. We were down to designing the business cards when it was decided that they will not open shop for now. However, I think that the logo they have chosen (and get to keep, yes) deserve to be known! It’s flowy, feminine, clean. Something uncomplicated. Exactly how their fashion would have been. Exactly what my style is!
Anyway, I have a few logos to feature here in the blog soon! I do have extremely happy hands right now. They’re cramping, too – but I’ve been happily busy creating lettering and calligraphy for awesome, lovely entrepreneurs. I seriously can’t wait to share them with you all real soon! In the meantime, another logo that I’ve done in calligraphy can be found here.
Gosh, I have so many ideas for a wedding now that I really wish I had 3 years ago. For my own wedding. I wish I was already doing calligraphy, and sometimes I wish I have painted our invites instead. Or wrote every word by hand instead of churning out a design and eventually throwing it away to start on a new one.
It’s more difficult to plan your own wedding than somebody else’s. For real.
For my calligraphy, I’m trying another hand right now – something more fluid and playful, a bit more carefree. I always write with my own style which is a bit upright. I try to follow the lines more closely. On the other hand, ‘carefree’ writing makes me feel so free and easy that I actually enjoy it!
If you or anyone you know is getting married in the next few months or so, here’s a free printable! It’s in A4 size and can be framed and placed on the table beside your guest book. Display it by your wish tree, if you have one (I think this is a fabulous idea). Then display it in your living room after the wedding. Black and white chalkboard art will blend nicely with any color, right?
Download your printable calligraphy here. Oh, and just in case, I also have a free downloadable calligraphy Photoshop brush here. Spread the love!
I have been practicing with my new scarlet ink a few weeks ago, and had a grand time writing a bazillion ‘hellos’. I had to figure out a different way to share them, and here they are! I came up with 3 new Photoshop brushes that you can use. You can adjust the opacity in Photoshop and use them as photo overlays, or you can make note cards for people you simply want to say hello to. Any day is a good day for sending mail, I say.
I hope I’ll get to see what you make of them! Tag me on Instagram, I’d be very much delighted to see them. Download your ‘hello’ calligraphy Photoshop brush set here.
If you need help loading these brushes, check out this video tutorial from Creature Comforts. I always link to this video – I find it way cooler than just reading step by step instructions. I have another set of brushes here, if you’re into watercolor circles. Have fun and spread the love!
Hello everyone! My little family is getting ready for an upcoming family trip, and we are so very excited. I’m also up to my neck with the preparations! The youngest family member always has more stuff needed to be packed.
I finally found time to show you this logo I recently worked on. I must say it was a pleasure working with Ann of Beautiful Revelry, and such an honor to create a custom calligraphy logo for the website revamp. She showed me her calligraphy inspirations along with her new website design, and then I got to work. Well, work is not really work when one’s having fun, right?
… and here’s the final logo on the home page! Check out Beautiful Revelry for party and design inspiration, and of course the charming selection of stationery and social gathering paraphernalia on the shop. Thanks again, Ann, for this wonderful opportunity!
